So I went ahead and swapped out the top end on the 268 for a 272. Cylinder and piston are in, the only hang up I am having is the plastic manifold that bolts on to the cylinder. The mounting holes are different. Can anyone confirm this who has done the same swap that I need the 272 manifold? I did my research and thought it was pretty straight forward. Grrrrr

Just looked, 268 intake and 272 intake have same part #. There are several threads on this swap on here im sure, try the search function on here, may have to try different wording to find stuff

Thanks cus_deluxe.

Saw was a 268(as per the tag) and had a 268xp mahle 50mm cylinder on it. When get home, I will take pictures of everything and post them up.
I have a good, used Mahle 52mm 272xp cylinder and brand new meteor piston on the saw, just need to get the manifold/carb on and ill be good to go.

Pic 1 272 bolted down, 268 on right, manifold. You can see the difference in shape of intake and where bolt holes are.

Pic 2. Stamped Mahle jug, measured 52mm

Pic 3 268 mahle jug/intake side

Pic 4. 272 bolted down, you can see how manifold and jug bolt holes are mis-aligned

Bought the saw sight unseen online. 268 chassis, tag. 268xp mahle cylinder/piston. Upon tear down, piston was scored, jug missing a top cooling fin so I wanted to upgrade to a 272 jug. Good used jug and meteor piston are on now. Just need the manifold to bolt up. What do you think is up?

Yup that is a 266 cylinder. The 268 and 272s are the same. The 266 and 268 are very similar minus different transfer sizes and carb bolt location

You need the entire tract. Carb will work.

266 uses short bolts to mount intake block to jug. Then carb bolts to intake block. 272 uses long sleeved bolts that go all the way though the carb and intact block to the cylinder.

The spark plug angle is different as well, but it usually still fits under the cover.

You’ll need to figure out why the original jug scored so the new one doesn’t as well.

Thanks for all the responses. Going to stop at the husky dealer to order intake pieces/gaskets. Thankful for all those who responded and who have helped along the way, from this site an social media. *Thought* I got a good deal on a saw and it turned out to be a hodge podge of parts" Ready to go". Anyone have an idea what tilly carb I have? Will it kill performance if it's not a 260a, what was supposed to be on 272? Thanks to all.

Just picked up the parts from the dealer($49).Washers for the longer bolts are NLA but I can pick them up at the hardware store. What are you guys using to seal gaskets on the intake tract? RTV?

So, put gaskets on, bolt down, and I'm good? I appreciate all who have responded, lended their time and knowledge.

I have used the search function on this and other forums, only downer is posts that are older and have photobucket, pics are gone.

I'll post up pics later for someone who may travel the same path and can use the pics for educational reference.
