I've got a 365 special that has had issues breaking the white starter pawl inside the housing and finally broke the starter housing. .. if I could buy a new 372oe I would just send it to a new owner but I love the non xts. What could be causing this? I noticed the flywheel and metal fingers on the 365 and 372 are different. I'll end up getting a oem replacement but what's going on? No wild timing or compression either. And I've had many 372s and 365s never this problem. ..

If the flywheel hasn`t sheared the key in the crank causing it to advance the fire to the plug then it could be the module is going bad. Did you check the air gap between the module and flywheel is correct?

No I have not checked the air gap. I did pull the flywheel and it is OK

Anyone know of a quality aftermarket starter assembly? I got one from China a few months ago and it's total junk. Bolt holes don't even line up and plastic looks like a cheap toy.

Check sawsalvage.com he had a cheap ugly one off a 372 not too long ago.
