365 x torque piston damage?(transfer grinding worth it?)

Hi, I just picked up a decent looking 2018 xt from a lady on FB marketplace. (I would have bargained with her, but her husband just left her and she was trying to raise money to pay bills) paid a little more than I should have, wouldn't start, and I thought maybe it would just need a carb rebuild. What do you think caused the damage on the exhaust side, cylinder seems decent, mostly just carbon tracking. Also, is it really worth it to remove and bring the transfer divider? I don't have a real Dremel. just a grinding wheel and a baby size harbor freight dremelish thingie

They ran it with old stale fuel or it was tuned to lean/or air leak.

Grinding the transfer covers is worth it. Takes it from a 365 up to a 372
