Made some more videos over the last couple days with an old, dry 14" piece of Douglas Fir. First up is one I've been wanting to do for a while now; the old Pioneer RA:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/rsrCVMS3_0s&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/rsrCVMS3_0s&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Fellow member "bigbadbob" gave me that beaut last summer & I got it going over the winter. Sure, it sounds and looks cool, but it's an absolute dog as far as performance goes considering it's 100cc. Though it does feel like it should have more power than it does. I think the chain's a bit too agressive for it though, because if I hold it back a bit it cuts really smooth - as soon as I dog it in it bogs down easily.

Next, another video of my ported 181SE:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/w7c2-eTiVyg&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/w7c2-eTiVyg&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

This time it's running an 8-pin rim and pulling a 24" skip chain. It has a larger-than-stock carb installed that I found, though I have no idea what saw it came from (288 or 394 perhaps?). It's happiest with the H jet open only about 1/2 turn, which scared me at first, but it's cut enough wood since that I'm comfortable with it now. Needless to say that when I take this saw on a firewood job, I spend much more time splitting and carrying than cutting...

Another video of the 031AV, this time with a 20" 3/8 full-house chisel chain:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/R3-FyBt3Slg&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/R3-FyBt3Slg&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Took a couple cuts to hit its stride - the third was about 12 seconds, a full two seconds faster than my Poulan 335 pro and eight seconds faster than my Husky 50 in the same log, though they are running .325 7-pin setups. It's bone stock other than having had the base gasket removed for a bit more compression (which really only put it back to where it likely was when new).

Last, and definitely least, that I shot today was my tiny 26cc Homelite XL-2 Automatic:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pjIFBcB92NE&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pjIFBcB92NE&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I know it's way out of its league here, but since it had a 16" bar (which was on it when I got it), I decided to see how it would fare anyway. Not bad at all considering its size! It has a single 5/16" hole drilled through the muffler plate and has had the internal baffle removed. I love how it sounds, but it's running quite rich due to its fixed-H-jet carb.

I had also done these two yesterday of my Poulan 335 Pro and Husky 50 just to compare the two:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GPg7QxER3rM&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GPg7QxER3rM&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ofKgtjGeUFY&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ofKgtjGeUFY&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Wildman - well, the Poulan used to cut faster than the Husky 50... My cousin asked me if I had a small saw he could buy from me to use over the winter, so I picked up a used chainbrake assembly from my friend and swapped the bar tip over to 3/8" so I could put a skip chain on it. I'm wishing I'd done it years ago! Cut times in the same 14-in. Douglas Fir log went from about 18 seconds to a little over 12 seconds:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/c8SgsDp0jMI&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/c8SgsDp0jMI&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Now I don't want to get rid of the 50... Though if I were to swap the Poulan over to 3/8" skip, it would probably improve likewise. I do realize that some of the improvement is just due to a brand new chain, but it just seems to have a fair bit more grunt than it used to.

gmax - that Pioneer is a big heavy pig, and surprisingly doesn't even have a whole lot of torque like some of the old beasts. My 090 is only 37cc larger but would probably outcut it 3 to 1 or more.
