My father in law built a splitter last fall and used a speeco 16 gpm pump from farm and fleet. The motor is a 18hp briggs v twin cylinder. Way more than enough power, doesn't work the motor at all. Haven't looked at it, but just wondering if there is a easy adjustment that can be made to keep the pump from shifting down so quick. With plenty of hp he would like to make it run a bit faster if possible.

There is a hex cap next to the suction tube that covers an adjustment screw. A guage should be in the line between the pump and control valve in order to tell when pressure is getting to the dangerous limits.
Turning the adjusting screw clock-wise will increase the pressure at which the high volume section will bypass. Adjustment should be made in small 1/4 turn at a time. Normal factory settings are between 600-800 psi.
