Right now Im running an old Vigilant that leaks quite a bit. It does an ok job heating the house as long as I feed it every 20 minutes or so. No matter how full I stuff it before bed, its empty and cold when I wake up in the morning. Id like to upgrade to a catalytic stove, as they appear to burn much longer and more efficiently, but I dont have the money to buy a new one.
So Ive been watching craigslist, and Jotul 8 just showed up within my budget. $500, says it needs a new cat. Seller claims thats only $50 but thats not what googles telling me. Im seeing $200ish.
At $700, is this a good deal?
Can I expect this thing to put out more heat than my Vigilant?
And can it exhaust out the top, rather than the back?
