Ash type?

It's ash bark and the wood is white.

Other ash species I've cut have very dark heart wood.

What other species? Guy at work had Ash like your talking about, he swore it was hickory! He brought a different split to work everyday for two weeks to argue his point.... until I brought in a couple hickory splits and he finally conceded. :laugh:

That's awesome Steve, I just downloaded it. Thanks. I have 3 different tree i.d. books and use my phone for everything in the world, but somehow I've never thought there might be an app as I stand over a downed tree wondering if it's worth taking home.
i didn't download it yet. i think i saw that you could take a pic of a tree or leaf and the app could identify it. i'm not real smartphone savvy though. let me know how it works.
