I have a small woodstove ,the box is open to a 6 inch flue out the top.

Thinking of building in a baffle out of 3/16 plate steel ,the largest I can fit through the door, about 2 inches below opening , from the back of the box, and centered.
Your thoughts or advice appreciated.......................................

will this help with better combustion?
longer burn time?

It could but it may not, it could make things worse. What type of stove is it? Do you have a damper in the pipe? A damper would help. Banking the fire will help. Operating a stove is an art at times, I have to adapt to the current air temps and atmospheric pressures. It's amazing how these things affect how I regulate my burner.
