Andy what makes you say that,,,, just the profile of the tree or the bark???

I have yet to see a close up pic of a leaf that would give my dumb Azz a good clue!!!:monkey:

Partly the profile of the tree, most Oaks grow more outwardly than at a sharp angle like this tree did, and maily the bark.
Look at the bark in the pic below, see how it's "chunky" vs, the "grainy" look of the fallen tree. Not sure how to better describe it than that?

Not very good pictures, but all I had of a Shingle Oak (Pin Oak family)

Now that is some pretty Oak!!! See all the moss on that sucker? Thats another good sign on Oak and Walnut!

One good sniff of the wood, would tell the tell

Hey Stihl, Did it smell like Oak?

Where the limbs real stiff or floppy?

Well this has turned into an interesting discussion on the type of tree. I called it an oak because when I did a cut with the grain it had a very oak like look to it, but with the red color. Here is the only other pic I could find that might help.

OK, Peacock says it is a willow oak, so I guess that is settled.

Thanks, Daryl for the Christmas card!
I will see if the wife will let me send it out.
