I do hope you are kidding with that remark about DEF.

That is nothing more than concentrated urea fertlizer and water, although it is a bit more pure. I spray the stuff on lawns to make them green.

Poured out in the grass, I have no doubt it will cause a brown spot, but if you watered it down it would only make a green spot. I'm pretty sure it would have no killing effect on a tree stump.
No, I'm not kidding. Full strength will kill everything. I save the small amounts I get from drivers who leave used jugs at pumps and use it on my driveway

Even if he manages to kill those particular weeds, the next weeds that germinate in that spot will grow faster and stronger in the more fertile ground.

Rock salt would work better than urea (DEF).

Now if you have too much of the stuff, put it in your hose-end sprayer and put it (diluted) on your yard. GREEN will be the result.

[EDIT] At 2.99 lbs of urea per gallon of DEF at 32.5%, that is 1.375 pounds of actual nitrogen per gallon. Put that stuff down at one gallon per 1375 square feet of yard, and you will be doing a perfect liquid lawn application of nitrogen.

Yes it as well as yours would. I know my area.

God gave you...........
2 ears
2 eyes
2 hands
2 feet

1 mouth

Figure it out.
you should listen to yourself, my mouth has NEVER gotten me kicked off a job and never will, your attitude towards openly breaking the law at work would have your ass walking quickly anywhere I've worked, possibly even escorted off the jobsite and calls made to every company in town, welcome to small towns, I know everybody with a reputable company within about an hour of my house, from little 2 man operations to multi million dollar corporations and everything in between, we ALL know whats going on with every employee at every company, all anyone would have to do is make one call to a friend saying "Bill is burning tires again" and all the sudden nobody would even answer the phone for you

but what do I know, I don't live in Illinois, I only know a few tree guys in your area but they'd never hire you to begin with, so don't worry about me making any calls to anyone

But, since these are public posts with your name and location, its not hard if the EPA wanted to find you due to a web crawler seeing your posts

Mr. Bill is in the arborist business?
Didn't he say he's an ex shop teacher/tomato farmer?

Whew......Good thing I do not have to worry about working for someone else them.............. Good to know:omg:

I will help you.
Call the Illinois EPA
(217) 782-3397

They do not enforce laws in Iowa
Call the Iowa EPA which is actually handled through the DNR

something, I think he said he was on some middle school debate team too? probably way back when drinking in school was acceptable maybe?
And I wonder why he would have to hire other people to have trees cut down on his property?

If the OP gets three more bids that are in the same ball park then it is probably the going rate fair or not. I just know there is no way in hell any reputable tree service would bid a job higher to leave the wood there. That is senseless. When I have to have a trees taken down at rental properties they are tickled that they do not have to remove it nor grind the stump.

In your area what would it cost to grind that stump?

Cut down bunch of White Pine this summer and cleared out a mess of saplings as well. Lots of branches, and smaller trunk sections that I could not find anyone to chip up for me. One guy suggested I just burn them.

So I dug a shallow pit with my backhoe and lined the rim with some of the many rocks around here. Then filled the pit with a pile of (some of) the debris.

It's in the 30's now and snow is predicted, so figured to get a good early start and burn much of it before the forecast storm shows up.

But . . . I could not get the pile to stay burning. Tried kindling, old chain saw mix, and even "fat wood" fireplace fire starters. It would get going and just peter out after a bit. Is there such a thing as it being "too cold" out?

If the snow hits like they say, it will be Spring time before I try again.

don't know if its been mentioned but a bale of straw with a bit of diesel soaked into it makes a good starter for a fire like your looking for.

a stack of pallets with brush piled on top/around works good, too.

Yes I mentioned that way back in January
Do not worry about the original oil mix ratio for your blower. If you are using quality oil at 50:1 for your saws it will be fine in the blower.

On a side note I did not realize you folks were that wet. I thought the NE was getting hit with heavy snow. We are expecting 13" or more here by mid-day Tuesday and 40mph+ wind. Our temps are expected to drop well below 0F over the next few days. If you can find a good dry bale of straw and soak that with used oil. It will help a lot.

They say EV tires burn good also, and considering how ruff on tires EV's are should be a good supply for Brother Bill G.
Heck who needs to burn the tires the EV's burn well themselves. Just ask DeWalt
