Chain spinning at idle temporarily

As mentioned, check for crud under the clutch drum.
Pretty common to get a lip of dust/ bar oil just next to the clutch on the edge of the clutch drum rim, and this can often drag the rim around and cause what you describe.
Also a dry/ dirty clutch drum bearing, but as its pretty new, odd that it would be causing an issue so early on, but still worth checking whilst you have the drum off.

Once thats checked, go and look at idle speed etc, but check the common easy stuff first, and report back.

It could be a clutch issue. its hard to explain but the inner parts of the clutch should only spin out under centrifugal force when the throttle is engaged and push against the clutch drum, pulling the chain around. When the throttle is not engaged springs hold the inner parts of the clutch back. Weak springs, dirt or something out of line can cause the clutch to engage when its not meant to. It can make a ringing noise aswell.

Hi all. I have a 562XP that has been flawless up until this point. The issue:

Once the saw is warmed up and I take the chain brake off, the chain will slowly rotate. If I blip the throttle, it stops

The chain brake itself functions properly.

What could be causing this? The saw is only 2 months old
Definitely the idle or possibly a little lean on the low speed jet depending how much you have used it it may be stopping up a bit and leaning out or the saw has broken in fully now and it may have just gained a few rpm’s

Ballistic doughnut nailed it on the first response and the behaviour is normal for the 562xp. When a 562xp is started in the high idle position, the chain will rotate until the throttle is blipped. If the saw is started in the high idle position with the chain brake on, the brake will hold the chain from rotating until released - then it will rotate until blipped. (And the clutch drum will heat up and wear prematurely)

Both Cold Start and Warm Start procedures use the high idle function. Hot start does not.

Hi Eddy ,sounds like weak springs in the clutch drum ,not sqeezing 3 friction blocks away from outer clutch rim ,plus idle could be a little high,or combination of both, regards --the old fella.
