I have a few questions on my MS260. I bought it in ‘04 and it’s not the pro version.

It came with a 18” .325 bar that I have since converted to a 16” 3/8 bar and sprocket.

I’ve mainly used it as a camping wood saw and now I have a wood stove in my shop so I’ll be cutting a little more wood. In addition to another saw, looking at a MS362, I’d like to do a minor muffler mod to my 260.

I ran thru the battery on my iPad last night searching and reading about it, but have a couple questions and things to clarify.

I have the WT-403b carb that doesn’t have a H screw. It has what appears to be 54 stamped in the Venturi, is that the jet size?

I’ve looked at swapping carbs, but I do like how little I have to adjust this once since I cut from 3-8K feet.

I read about several people running small MM’s with the WT-403 with good results. Obviously it’s not up to the full potential of a larger MM and a fully adjustable carb. Since I only use the saw at elevation, which should richen it up, am I okay to do a small MM, such as a single 1/4” extra port?

If I do swap carbs I’m leaning towards a WT-426 to keep the Intellicarb feature.

I was sold the wrong air filter a while ago that was for a non-intellicarb 260. If I swap to a WT-194 would that air filter keep me from needing to move the snorkel or plug the current filter?

Thanks!

Well I finally found a MS362 on Craigslist, and the guy was only 2 miles away, so that block is checked. It’s got the wrap handle and the standard carb. It looks like it’s barely been in the wood.

Since I got that used I decided to just get the WT-194 for my MS260 with some of my used price savings.

I put the WT-194 on the MS260 this last weekend and even with just one 1/4" hole it made a big difference.

Before I took the OE carb off I put the tach on it and it was still running rich with the small muffler mod, around 12,000 rpms. This was at 4,100' and 70°.

The extra air filter I had did fit the carb, but the cover doesn't attach the same so I'll likely swap the cover plates.

I did buck up a 40' section of a pine tree with the MS362. The bottom of the tree was about 28". The MS362 is bone stock and flat rips thru it! I'm quite excited to get a few cords next month.
