I have a 30 ton Northstar that looks amazingly like the Troy-Built. Even tho it's a NS, it hasn't given me one bit of problems, and has a Honda GX engine. Splits nasty knotty hard oak easily. Also has a 4.5 or 5" ram, I don't remember. Biggest round I put in it was a 27" , and it hesitated just a second, then went right thru. I would think an electric would be perfect for smaller stuff, and much easier to lug around. I have to pull mine w/ the tractor, but gives me the choice to slpit away from the house if I want to. I hate dragging a lot of extension cords around.
