I was thinking about adding this tool to my saw box for in the field repairs. I searched for some info on quality and usefulness but only found one thread that was two years old that had limited information. So the question goes out to anyone who has experience with this tool, is it worth the money, does it work correctly, and how does it hold up in the field. If anybody has hands on experience with this tool your opinion would be appreciated or if someone has one that they would like to part with please let me know or send a PM thanks in advance

I've made some chains with one of those before and they're ok to use. You need good grip strength though to really spin a chain good. For field repairs it's about the best thing going. I might have one you can have, I can send it along with the 395.

that would be great. The 395 is not that important so take care of your affairs first. Send it when you can no big rush. How is it coming along anyway have you run into problems or is it going smooth.

So far, so good. The internals on the one 395 look great. I can't believe how rough the exterior is and the interior is so pristine. It must have bounced around in the back of a pickup for a long time or something.

you must be psychic as those parts came from an auction at a sawmill that was closing down. There was a dozen or so large boxes with saw parts that the mills loggers had trashed. My luck was that everybody there spent all there money on the running saws and the boxes of Stihl parts, what I got was the box of parts that was the last auction item for the day, luckily I was the only bidder cause what I paid was all I had after $20 in gas and two $5 hotdogs

I'm on my second pair and had also used 1 years ago at a shop I worked in part time. The 1 at the shop worked pretty good and it may not have been made by granburg. The 2 grandburgs I owned and still have 1 I've been using the spinner part only because the breaker doesn't work so well after the tool has been used a while the joints seem to bend and then its hard to center the breaker. Even the spinner doesnt work near as good as at first. IMO they are good for limited use. If you are gentle with them they could last better.
I am about to order a bench mount set from bailey's and I am sure it will take much less effort and time + last. Like a spare tire out in the field if you need it the granburg has its best place. I just as soon have a spare chain and fix my breaks and make loops at home with the bench type.
