Just wanted to say hi to everyone. I've been a member for a little while but just started posting.

Dad taught me how to cut with this Homelite C-52 and a crappy plastic big box store throw away Homelite that fell in the trash years ago. But in large part to the great reviews from members here I just bought the DCS6421 from Baileys. I also got a 24" bar and the full wrap handle, It's my first new saw as a homeowner, and can't wait to start getting firewood for next year! Not including myself, I help with 4 family's worth of firewood throughout the year so it'll get a workout. Thanks again for all the help I didn't even have to ask for!

Thanks guys. I started the winter off with about 10 cords, 6 of elm and the rest is a mix of cedar, alder and poplar with a few random sticks of madrona thrown in. Split what I could by hand but most of it was done with a splitter. I grew up burning wood and when we bought this house the first thing we did was put a stove in. $200/month propane bills meant it got done pretty fast! Old blue, as it's affectionately called in the family, is getting tired so that's why I baught the new saw. Would love to revamp her someday but I just don't have the time right now.;)

Welcome aboard and hang on for the ride. I'll bet that Homie's "muffler" will roust folks out of bed in the morn.

For future cutting, I'll wager you'll love a good 40 cc- ish saw, for limbing and smaller cuts. Light & nimble- a real plus- for operator endurance and safety.

Yea there's been a few days I wished I had put ear plugs on before the ear muffs running that saw, but it sure does draw a crowd lol. And yea I've been looking into the smaller Echos and Husky's for an "around the house" saw. Can't stand any of the local Stihl dealers, but if I find a good deal on Craigslist I'm not too brand sensitive.

Two nice saws you have there and a good looking wood pile! You say the homelite Is getting a little tired- maybe just needs a new set of rings. Those saws are pretty easy to work on. I definitely understand not having the time to work on it. I've got a pile of old saws that need some work and the pile seems to grow faster than I can get around to working on them.
Chances are your homelite won't see as much use as that new dolkita. Welcome to AS.

I have a C-51 with that same style, or lack thereof, muffler/baffle. I love to fire it up for my friends. I also love the manual only oiler. Sweet looking wood pile. Just curious, do you run the 16:1 mfgr recommendation in it?

HOLY CRAP 16:1! Guess the shows my age(28)! My father has been running 40:1 in the C-52 since before I was born and it's been cutting firewood up till now, and probably still will from time to time. He did cannibalize a parts saw he got for free from a local saw shop for a new piston and jug a few years back. it runs great in wood but I think it needs a carb job, seems to load up at idle/hesitates when you first grab the throttle, but I'm kind of new at this sort of stuff. I spent 5 years in auto repair and am now working in a very narrow aspect of the marine repair industry. I work with some really knowledgeable guys when it comes to two strokes, big and small, so I've been trying to pick their brains when I have time.
