Hello everyone! Just putting a feeler out there that I'm looking for a Homelite 450. Would love to find a west coast version with full wrap!

Doesn't have to be anything special or even running. Being pretty gets extra points and I'd be willing to spend more for it, same goes for the full wrap and felling spikes. If it's a chain brake model that's cool too!

I'd even look at 550's too I suppose and of course if you have just the full wrap handle I'd be interested in buying that too!! Could use a parts saw possibly also.

Thank you good folks of Arboristsite!

I have a 550 with a full wrap. It runs but the muffler bolt holes are wallowed out and will need heli-coils. I got it in a multiple saw deal and I already had a 550, so I just put on a shelf and I don't know much else about the saw. I'll be asking $250 PHO plus shipping. If you're interested I'll post some pictures.

Oh okay, by muffler bolt holes do you mean the main bolts right on the exhaust port on the cylinder or just the exhaust brackets that bolts on to the body?

I am interested being that it seems it is a 550W. However I would like to see if a 450 comes available before I spring on another 550.

If it's cosmetically pretty I might be more inclined to go for it I suppose also.

Thank you for the quick response sir!

If Jay cannot help you I have some 450 and 550 saws.
Hello sir, I hope that you are doing well!!

Being that I have a 550W already in the stable I was hoping to try and find a 450 before I decide to pull the plug on another 550.

Any of your 450's have a full wrap or in decent condition?

Thank you kindly for the fast response.

I believe I have a 450 or two in decent condition but I am not going to step on Jay's toes either, If you prefer a 450 and he does not have one I will dig one out.

Bill

It's been a while since I looked at it, but I'm pretty sure it's the main bolts at the exhaust port. I'll get it out today and take some pictures.

This saw is just a little rougher than I remembered. Actually, all three of the bolt holes for the muffler will need thread repair. The clutch cover is useable, but has issues, and the piston has some light carbon scratches-- the rings aren't affected and there's no transfer, just some light scratches. Compression is good. The muffler is functional, but has had some brazing done on it.
I think $175 plus shipping would be a more appropriate price.

I Know There Was Another Member That Started This Wanted Ad And I Don’t Want To Step On His Toes ,If By Chance He Doesn't Make A Deal With You Let Me Know As I’ve Been Looking For A 450 ,Thank You

Yes sir! That's exactly what I was looking for to be honest. I sure appreciate you taking the time to dig it out and take the photos. That's always helpful.

Yes she does appear to be in fair shape. I only see a missing air box cover nut but that's no big deal at all.

And to answer your question about the difference between the two, everything considered it's not much. Carburetor differences, and just a few revisions that set it part from the 550. I believe the 450 came first and then the 550. They are quoted to only be a little over a 1lb difference also.

Well I'm definitely interested sir!

It actually has the style of felling spike I was looking for also and would be willing to pay if you could find a second one so it could be mounted on the clutch cover also.

Thanks again a million!!!

I dug out a 450. It needs cleaned up and the normal fuel system work.
Was this one just the most accessible at the time or did you think there may be a better example to find yet?

I'm happy to take what I can get though and I'm grateful you were willing to help and offer yours and I wouldn't feel right asking you to go dig more out just for my behalf.

I will say for myself the one thing I look for is if the handle is straight, & without bends or damage as I have never had luck straightening them and there not common for these saws.

The 450 you have looks to have a straight handle and no damage that I can see at all. Would you agree?

Thanks again sir!

I see! Yeah it's honestly not too bad though. It has the felling spike I was looking for too. Pretty sure this is a 550w.

Just being the situation as it is I would be comfortable offering $150 + shipping but that is only becuase I'm trying to get the 450 first.

Your being plenty fair asking $175, I just don't have the need for it as much.

However down the road a little bit I would be interested for sure as it has many good parts.

(PS if anything for the current moment would you be willing to sell the felling spike off of your 550 or maybe you have a spare? So that I may have a set for the 450 if Bill doesn't have another?)

THANK YOU

That 450 will be the best one I have and I do not have additional felling dawgs.

450 is 74cc,550 is 84cc.Great saws,I have one of each, both strong runners.Guessing from some my literature & ChainSaw Age magazine ads,the 550 was introduced first, around late 1978/early 1979,then the 450 was after that around 1980-81.

The legendary 750 was introduced June 1978,according to a feature story & big 2 page ad in ChainSaw Age.The smaller 350 (great saw, predecessor to the much more common 360 with same displacement) was the first one in that series,it came out in 1975.
Funny thing is they didnt have all of them for sale at the same time, just 2-3 of them. Like the 750 was a replacement for the short lived Super 650 (with same displacement). But you could get the 450,550 & 750 in 1980 for about a year.
