How I spent my weekend

Giant California Redwood. In Madison WI. Milled up with a Peterson. I'll get some more pics. The stack of wood was HUGE. 9 slabs, 5ftx16ftx3-4" and about 35 beams 4"x6"x16'.

It was a LOT of fun!

Looks like fun. I have to ask though, where did it come from?? I thought CA was protecting old growth redwoods. It looks like from the fern growth on the end it was down for at least a while, but any info on where it originated??

some of the pics. YEs it has been in Madison WI for about 30 years. On display at a wood chip board company. They were moving and did not want it on display any longer.

The guy who asked for the log, set the deal up, and invited everyone out. He gave some away to "very good" friends! Ha ha. A great thing to see.

I don't know what redwood is going for, but I imagine just one of those 3-4" slabs is worth $1000's!!!! I'm thinking corporate executive conference table here.

Unique thick slabs like this usually sell by the piece rather than the board foot. Thus the price has little common reference. One of those whatever the market will bear kinds of things. If somebody has a particular high end piece in mind, like a big conference table as was mentioned, and he/she was willing to drop a grand on the slab, then that's what it is worth at that moment. Wood like this can get real real crazy.
