Just wondering ... hydro cylinder rod size

• What is the max hydro cylinder rod size that one can have in relation to bore size without shortening the expected life of the cylinder on a log splitter? Custom made would be the assumption considering the standard sizes.

i dont see why it would shorten the life of the cylinder, but im no expert in hydraulics.
big rod means shorter return time ... but custom made sounds expensive
