I have just been offered some English larch for a really cheap price, does anyone know if it would make good beam sections, I have seen many old buildings with these beams in situ, maybe they could be pitch pine, has anyone used any Larch for beams before.

I have used Tamarack, which is a North American Larch, for building a barn. It is strong, heavy and rot resistant.

It tends to twist as it dries, and it's harder to work with the drier it gets.

I put it up green and have had no problems. Beams were boxed.
