Mac ID?

Saw a cheap Mac on Marketplace, looks like a 10-10, but no tags, stickers etc. I have a few similar Macs, but none have that single piece starter cover style (on the left below). Thought that might be an identifying trait? All the Macs I've seen from that series have the sorta 3-piece cover w/ the plastic flywheel-screen cover insert & metal recoil cap.... like the 10-10 on the right below.

that unusually tall button on top of the handle reminds me of the electric start models... but those all had the pull start on the clutch-side. idk.

The one with the black top is a 10-10 Automatic (10-10A), the only real challenge on that one is a replacement air filter if needed.

The other one appears to be an agglomeration of parts from various models. That starter cover was only found on a few early models, some of which were export models (to Japan for example). It should have the same kind of MAC 10 fuel tank and air filter cover as the 10-10 Auto but all yellow.

The other photos in the MAC10 manual show the starter with the three piece screen like the 7-10 in these photos.

The taller stop switch is also the DSP (De Stroking Port) or compression release button. If you look at the photo showing the muffler side you can see the DSP bracket there above the muffler. That feature was found on some 3-10 DSP models as well as the early 7-10 saws. I am guessing the all yellow one is probably a 7-10 with the other starter cover swapped over from another saw.

Dang, Heimannm! I think you've figured it out. Lot of useful info, thank you. A potential 7-10 seems worth the drive. So, I'll probably try and snag the saw this weekend. Thanks again!
