Hi forum, hope someone can give a hint about what is the aluminium alloy for the housing for a walk-behind mower, specially for those that do not have steel sleeve.

I guess that the common alloy for these issues is A380, but I am not sure.

Thanks!!

Hi,

Ok I appreciate all your answers, my question in specific form is: What is the aluminium alloy of the housing of a engine of a lawn?
For example, a modern 2014 Briggs and Stratton engine, like the next model 725ex Mow N Stow
and those models do not have steel sleeve.

Thanks!

I'd go to the Weldingweb.com and ask, or email Briggs & Stratton.

My best guess is that the engines are cast aluminum. What is the purpose of your question? Are you looking to repair one with a weld?

I have a few Lawn Boy mowers, most are aluminum decks but one, my favorite, is made of magnesium. I use it to mow the bank in front of my house, very lightweight..
The engines on all the LBs are aluminum I believe. I never do any welding to the engines because they are still plentiful, I just grab a spare engine..
