McCulloch Saw Age and What Happened to Mac?

The one on the stool is rather wonderful, but I imagine I'd get told off if I got hold of one incidentally, is Robert Paxton anything to do with Paxton Superchargers?

It's the same Paxton. McCulloch sold to Paxton sometime in the (late 60's?).

Some of the other guys on here would know for sure.

Nothing better to do, so I figured I would go stretch the legs on the SP125 a little. Sunk the 36" bar into some 40" Oak and let it rip. This saw still impresses me. Pulling Oregon 59CJ (that I had to touch up out of the box), the chips just flew. One thing, the vibes are not all that bad on this 40+ year old design.

I like how you can't feel the weight of the saw in the wood 'cause you sure can out of the wood. You have to respect the guys that ran these monsters 8+ hours a day.

Makes great noise too....

MAC did have some decent saws there at the end, not overly impressive, but not slouches either.

The Timberbear/Pro-Mac610 was wildly popular, cheap to own, powerful, and easy to operate...yes, it was loud and heavy, thank God.

The 4618 and Silver Eagle were also good saws, not perfect, not pro grade, but much nicer than the crappy 3200/3800 line, of Plastic junk...
