I thought I had licked my case of CAD and was through with buying more saws. I was wrong. I saw a CL ad for a used Stihl 026 from the original owner, $130 OBO. So I gotta check that out right? Guy sends me a pic but it's too small to see any detail, but it looks pretty grungy. I phone to tell him I'm coming to see it. He calls me back five minutes later and says he has bad news. He forgot that the last time he used it, his buddy broke the on/off/choke lever. If that's all, that's no big deal, but then I begin to wonder what else might be wrong with it.
So I get to his house and the first thing on the saw that grabs my attention is the nameplate, which is not even scratched!
Under the layers of dried pine sap mixed with sawdust, the plastic looks completely unfaded, so I decide to buy it. The guy asks, "How much you willing to pay?"
I say, "How about $120 because of the broken lever?"
He says, "How about $100 because of the broken lever?" And we both start laughing as I tell him he drives a hard bargain.
I get it home and clean it up, and this is what I find:
Then the story gets better...
