I would pull the seals and flush the crankcase out WELL. I use a water hose with the nozzle set on jet. Then I blow the crankcase out with air and lube the bearings WELL with WD40.
When you raise the ex. port you lower compression and it's compression increase that gives the most power.I know porting seems to be a very controversial topic here and I understand why. It's definitely pretty scientific, but it seems to me that getting more air in and out has to be helpful as well.

Sounds right to me. The port heights weren't changed any. Just widened and smoothed out. When you raise the ex. port you lower compression and it's compression increase that gives the most power.
That gives power increase but very small.Sounds right to me. The port heights weren't changed any. Just widened and smoothed out.

It's a firewood saw not a hot saw lol trying to ease into it...That gives power increase but very small.
It's not the amount of air pumping through the motor that makes power. Making better use of the air that makes power. You can hog a cylinder out and get long intake durations and sure it'll run faster. But you're going have spit back from over filling the case, thus killing case compression. That in turn makes for a lazy charge transfer which causes slow throttle response and makes less power per unit of fuel. Remember that you can only fit so much in. And unburnt charge exiting the muffler isn't making power. Obviously improving flow helps in most case's, but fact is there's a fine line between enough and too much on many saws. Don't grind blindly, and don't assume more air=power.I know porting seems to be a very controversial topic here and I understand why. It's definitely pretty scientific, but it seems to me that getting more air in and out has to be helpful as well.

Same here! I've been playing with the 036 firewood saw quite some time, little by little, bit by bit. Compression is KING!It's a firewood saw not a hot saw lol trying to ease into it...

I'm pretty sure mine has been done mildly and conservatively, should be pretty safe. We'll find out soon.

Really wasn't trying to get that scientific with it at this pointAre you planning on setting squish for more compression? Minimal port timing changes and nearly free horse power.
That's NOT being scientific! That's the FIRST place to look for more grunt power!!!!!!!!Really wasn't trying to get that scientific with it at this point
