Al, The Partner oiler is working good but Oleo Mac oilers are giving me nightmares at the moment :bang: :D
 
Pm 1000

My Pm1000 arrived, and new flywheel seal installed, waiting on the clutch side one now.

I installed my MINT condition K1200 piston and cylinder because they were very nice, and my NOS spare rings for my 2101xp.

I also installed a WS18A carb in place of the worn shaft HS on it but then found out the air filter for the Mac 1000 wont fit the WS so I used a Partner P series smaller filter for now. The choke is larger on the Ws so hits the LARGE filter on these 1000's. Learning something new every day!

Another S65 for the bench

Picked up two S65 saws in poor condition for next to nothing. Found out they both had NO compression but perfect cylinders and pistons. Not even a mark or line on them. After checked them I found the rings were gone, I mean gone!! then noticed both saws were missing the ring alignment pin on both saws. Both saws were single ring too. Funny the pins gone but no marks, scratches, nicks, 100% great P/C still.

Used pistons and new rings went in both and were running in 30 minutes.

This is the nicest one, all parts are the way it came, I didn't add any.

Duane, those Partner 65cc saws are good goers and to my eye, a very fine looking saw. I have a few variations and they are all working saws. The first is an R420, the second is an R420/650 mix, then a 65 and a 650.

OK, so here's the story. Long time ago, over a year, a guy emailed me that he had a 5000 in a bucket. I tried to email him back and his address was no good. So, of course, I promptly forgot about it. Until yesterday. I found the old email and tried it again. Lo and behold, I got him.

I go down today, he's got two mostly complete saws and two more carcasses. Get them home and start poking around, only two had top ends on them, so I tore them down.

So....one turned out to be closed port and one is open port. Both with windowed pistons.

This is the other two bottom ends, one has a good crank and one has a good piston

So here's the two jugs. The open port has the plug recessed a little more, you can't get a socket on it, you have to use an open end wrench. Is this a foolproof way to tell them apart from the outside?

Any thoughts? I have heard that some 5000's were open and some closed. I guess I know now. And why the windowed piston in both?

I should have enough parts here to make two if not three runners with what I already had, plus I already have a 5000+ and a 500. One of these may go for a trip for some porting work. Make something real nasty for that smart ass neighbor with the 575xp.:msp_thumbsup:
 
Chris, you done well, cool to find some good windowed pistons. I hope to have a yellow explosion on my bench someday. Got the yellow, just need time to get em on the bench. I'll compare the open port to the closed port to see what mine are.

I got a used/scored 028 piston to use for a mock up to see whats what since I have found no good 5000 CP pistons yet.

5000+ were most all closed port windowed piston, BUT toward the end they used up some spare stuff. 5000 non Plus were open. I believe your open port saw was indeed a 5000+ that someone replaced the cylinder with a 500/500 non + one. The windowed piston on open chambers is defeating the purpose of either design. Those pistons are GREAT!!! if you check close!!!! one may even be a Domed one!! looks like your closed port one might have that .020 dome!

Early 500/5000 non plus have the cylinder that you have, with small opening for plug, I'm willing to bet its a 500 jug on a 5000+

Chris, I have an early 5000 with an open port cylinder. I also have a number of 500's and the porting is different - they are not the same. I have not had it apart in more than 12 months and my tiny brain can't recall what piston it had. I will have to pull it down and see but finding the time.:rolleyes2:
It is easy to tell the early ones as they have a metal brake handle. Good luck with the build, they are great fun to work on. I have a few more under the bench and will have a yellow explosion myself one of these fine days.

I have an R420 QUESTION

I have a guy from work who knows I like Partners and he wants me to look over tune up his R 420Actually he called it an R-20 so maybe that is what it is and not an R420. I have never seen one except on here .He said it runs but a little rough .What should I look for are there any regular type problems to look for? Somthing that the 420's are noted for? Thanks Jeff

Great saws with very few problems - they are just an early S65 really and the closed port pot gives a little more power. Fuel lines and carb would be where I would go first.

I know we discussed this before, but what is the best way/tool for removing the oil pump drive gears? I know there is a coarse and a fine, so I need two different tools?

Could be just what it says Ron, a P-70, basically a bigger bore P-55. Ignitron is what they called the electronic ignition. it doesn't say pioneer/partner because it's older than that, before pioneer and partner were merged.
