Just went through this entire thread. Never heard of these before but pretty sure they’re the coolest looking saws I’ve ever seen. I want one!
 
I’m working on putting together 3 PM 275 saws, the Pre 65, 1965 version and a 275 plus.
one complete 275 now which will be 1965. I will have to repaint the top.

Hi looking for ideas on bars to suit the 270. I have a couple of saws with this king of drive sprocket
It’s a 7 tooth & I have one with this type of drive.

Can anyone help me identify either type??

Lastly do the numbers in this photo represent the model & then serial number?

I guess ones up the left corner are possibly part numbers?

First photo is a shot spur sprocket.
Second and third show a replaceable 7 spline rim drive. Easy enough to find new rims. Standard size.
Forth photo: part number is the cast number at the upper left. The 7 digit numbet would be the model and 4 digit serial number.

I've used Homelite XL/750 mount bars on these Canadiens.

Which of the 2 drives are OEM (easier to source)? Thanks for the tip on the bars too. I’ll put it to good use!!
 
OEM would be the spur type. Easier to source is the replacement rim. Look for Oregon 7 spline replacement rims. Size would be .404-7 tooth.

The drums are no longer made as these saws quit being produced in the late 60s.
 
GB Forestry in Australia have some sprockets for PM 270-275 they are too expensive for me with shipping costs.
there part # CN580-B7N I was quoted $50.96 AUD each. Shipping for 2 to Canada was $69.00 AUD for 2.
you can look them up on their website with the part #.
Hi 89 HD,
I received 2 of the Spurr drive in todays mail. With freight (Melbourne to Albury) it was around the $170 aud inclusive of Grab Snatch & Take. (GST). The bearing is already fitted.

I have a small stack of the Oregon 12672 rim drive drums. They fit the flatted drive clutches and use a modern style cage bearing rather than drawn cup type. It's possible the oem drawn cup bearing will fit right in this drum. Haven't tried to check. I dug up an early style clutch, keyed shaft, lined shoes, with wear sleeves on the shoe pivots. That clutch is a slighty larger OD, pretty snug in this drum. I guess that means early drums are different. Maybe the shoes can be swapped out to have it fit better.

Looking more closely, the larger OD of the keyed clutch actually seems to be due to wear in the shoe pivots. It has those little pivot sleeves that PM got rid of. I can push the shoes in a fair bit by hand.
