Usually straight gas messes up both sides of the jug and an air leak trashes the exhaust side. Didn't know if you found any indication of an air leak.

ok i didnt know that whiskers, interesting, thanks. well the bloke who sold it said he's dad straight gassed it. and i was nervous too for air leaks after i put randy's jug on it so i got my local Stihl shop to look over it for air leaks etc and gave it the all clear.

Usually a saw with an air leak won't idle down either, but if its idling correctly I wouldn't worry about it.
