project stihl 066 starter help.

I have a project 066 that I am building from parts. It has the aluminum flywheel with two keys. It has the smaller flywheel side seal. I was wondering if any 066 starter would work or do I need one off an 064. Did the starters change from the aluminum to poly flywheel. thanks.

The 066 flywheels are thicker. You need an 066 starter.

I've read on here that the early ones were narrow, I'm not sure how tho.

The really early ones were the same as the 064 . when they changed the logo from the patch in the middle to top right is when they switched thinknesses

All I have to go on is the flywheel and case itself. Didn't get a starter with it so I'm completely lost. I don't wanna buy the wrong one. And thanks for the info.

The 066 flywheels are thicker. You need an 066 starter.

You need a flat top 066 recoil assembly. Pre 1998?

064 and 066 flywheels aren't even close...neither were the recoils

Is there a part number, or a picture to go by. I can source almost all the other parts this is the only one causing a headache. I wanna save this from the scrapyard, which is where it was heading before I got it.
