I have a Stihl 440 and 046. I'll keep one and send it off for port and squish and sell the other. My question is, does one or the other take to porting better than the other? I really can't decide which one to keep and which one to sell.

Which saw do you like better now? What will you use it for, and what other saws do you have?

Both respond well to porting. Both are good models. I've owned both. The 046 definitely has a little more grunt. 440 is definitely lighter. You'll notice a difference if you've got to toss it around all day.

046 is a bigger saw and makes more power. The 440 is lighter. Depends on which one you fell comfortable swinging around all the time. Both take well to porting.

As said above, you can also sell the 046, find a 52mm 046 jug, and have a hybrid 044/46 built ($$$), but you’re taliking around $250 more, on top of regular porting.
