grabbed a Ryobi saw out of the take it or leave it pile at the dump, case and everything. I think it was run on straight gas just long enough to finish the job so the top has had a significant event ie seasure. Does anybody know where I can get a top end. I guess it is a redmax gz400 eng. it is 42cc and a strato cylinder..

thanks
jim

Well, I just looked and I have a decent jug from one of the Taiwanese clones (they will swap), but no piston. As far as I know you can buy the parts from RedMax, but they are expensive. They are great little saws (40cc actually).

You might be best off to keep and eye on eBay as they do come up, and sometimes need other parts. You might be able to combine them - this is what I did to build mine.

How bad is the piston and jug? Can you get by with a wire wheel, wet sand, and rings. ?..until you find a top end? Great little saw, just saw one go on ebay for 60 $.
