My Dad has a nice green ash tree on his property that I thought would be an excellent source for saving some seeds. It shows no signs of eab yet but I'd like to get some seeds just in case. Does anyone have much experience at this? I've read this article: http://www.nsl.fs.fed.us/gtr_nrs55_AshSeedCollection.pdf but was wondering how common weevil problems really are. Is it really necessary to eliminate the weevils or can I just collect some seeds and freeze them?

Interesting... If the Green Ash you are describing is a cultivar then perhaps it may not have so much value. On the other hand going out in the "woods" and collect seeds from a more genetically diverse population of Ash trees for future propagation certainly make sense.
