even thought i found a 064.
i did find a 064 but the stihl dealer that had it would not budge. the saw was complete minus the bar and had a scored piston. i offerd more then ive ever offerd for project saws. i offerd 100 bucks first then 200 then dealer not biteing

so i said put a price on it and ill see if i can afford it. the dealer wouldnt even put a price to it. he just kept going off about how parts to rebuild the top end are 350 and yadyyada , i go yeah thats why most get thrown in the dumpster. or pieced out. he doesnt know the 066 big bore kits exist.

anyways i was pretty bummed i didnt get it. theres another saw lost to parts pieces and then the dumpsteer .

i then spotted dolmar sign and went in. they had some new saws even big ones but no projects. guy let me go in the back and they had some big hommies and david bradley things that looked like chain saws.

then finaly i made the drive back home, 50 miles and decided to check a old guy that has lawn more service shop. he used to be husky and still dealer. were talking way back when saws the the 056 were knew

thats exackly what i found a complete 056 super. how many cc's is the super. and a 045.
i guess the 056 isnt complete, its missing the muffler and filter cover. it has scored piston but not bad. ebay has some aftermarket 056 54mm pistons(how bigs the super)

the 045 is cleaner and more complete but i like the 056 more. the 56 has full wrap and big dawg on it. and might fill my big saw gap 42". i also think i can get it running. theyre seems to be enough parts on ebay that i could build it. ohhhhhh i know where theres a box off 056 parts at another dealer.

anyways i offerd 50 bucks for the 056, and offcourse this guy doesnt take plastic money. only local checks and cash. so i go dign in the truck lookin for a check cause i never have cash, heck i havent wrote a check since the 066 giveaway

long story short im going back monday to get the 056. i think itl be cool havn a project saw that i can cut big wood with and itl look cool sitn on a shelf in my grage next to the 372 and 44s.

When you go back make sure that 56 has spark. It's a whole new bag of worms when you need spark on a 56. Some parts for the 56's add quickly especially mufflers, not talking you out of anything but with a 66 parts are a dime a dozen
good luck

belive it or not this guys also has parts room full of new parts form the 056 era. new recoils , handles, and such he also has the 045 and we were looking through is pile of new cylinders and one looked to match the cylinder on the 056. to me it looks like it needs alittle muratic acid and piston, he had pistons to. most the stuff he couldnt remember what it was for.
this guys even found the file back when he got this saw in the shop to work on, it was owned by a former employer of mine. its a very small town.

anyways this guy has parts , i know of another saw in box and i did some reading and the 045 ingnition stuff might work. i think im good to go. yes i am going back monday. at 50 bucks the saw is very clean and almost worth just sitn on my bench to look at for that price

did alittle researchn and it is a 54mm 87cc saw

im looking forward to this build.

Evan

ps

this guy also has a running 041 that he wants 225 for if anyone interested

if i cant find a muffler im going to build one from scratch

This is what I know and this will help you with the ignition problems. If it is Bosch (TS350 chop saws) run the same thing. If it is SEM well good luck. They are out there and costly. $100-150 range. Find someone with a 2100 Husqvarna, they used the same coil. I have one in mine and it runs great (thanks again B200driver). The switch wires and switched are also the culprit of no spark so check that out too.

Keep us posted and yes of course pictures needed.

You better get that 056 for $50 quick! If word gets around about it the thing will not last at that price. The mufflers are pricey, but if you're able to make one thats one obstacle down. They are great saws, a little on the heavy side but gobs of torque. You won't even notice the weight while you're bucking up the 30" plus stuff. I have a 24" & 36" bar for mine & it doesn't skip a beat with the larger bar. Hoss has a thread on the 056 where he lists some specs as 89cc's & 6.8hp (the thread is; "whats a old 056 worth"). Good luck with the purchase.

Ha!

That's funny- I went to a saw shop today and talked to the guy for about an hour about all sorts of saws. he was trying to sell me a Dave Bradley... and showed me all his old saws as well as project/parts saws. I actually went there to find an SEM ignition for my 056 I just got the other day. I have something have like 4 or 5 cylinders for 056 supers (54mm). I also have a ton of other parts - probably a filter cover- but no working ignitions!

Where do you live? I'm in Caldwell, but went to Stallions saw shop over in Emmett. The guy said he has around 30 or more 056 parts saws at home and I can come pick through his garage and see what I need. not for free ofcourse- but it seems like a good connection!

Tommie,

Nice work and nice saw. If only you could put flippy caps on it. Keep the wusses away.

Well done,

ole joat

That saw was a mess Joat. Your looking at NEW plastic, NEW handle bar, NEW chain brake handle, NEW OEM piston and cylinder, and a host of other new parts. I don't half azz a project, I put it back with new OEM parts all the way. It gets alittle costly but its only money.

That saw was brought in fried. Man didn't want to buy the parts and took it with him. A few weeks later he came back with it and said here, I don't want this thing sitting around the house. I was like okkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.:cheers::cheers:

Oh forgot to tell you. Roland wants a IPL for his TS400. I told him when I hear him say he loves those flippy caps, he should be starting another thread anyday now,LOLOLOLOLOL

Tommie,

Here's what you need to do:

1) Run out to that 064.
2) Write "ole joat = first dibs" on a hang tag.
3) Securely attach that hang tag to that purty 064.
4) Call me when that 064 is ready to roll further South.

Thank you ... thank you .... thank you very much,

ole joat
