Does anyone know the advantages of, or pros and cons of a solid tip bar vs. a sprocket tip bar?
The reason I'm asking is because I want to purchase a 24" bar for a Makita DCS 6401 that I just purchased. I've only used saws with a sprocket tip and it seems to me a solid tip bar would have more friction and wear out chains quicker.

Solid tip bars are old technology. A few diehard old timers may still use them, hardly anybody else. If you've never used one then you don't need to try one.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info! That was a big help. I think that I will stick to the sprockets.
