I was an idiot this past weekend and managed to break the handle on my 2-1/4 lb Boys axe. Can anyone make a recommendation on where to purchase a good replacement handle?

Oh boy I would never buy a handle without seeing it in person.
Me either, if I had the choice, but it doesn't always work that way. The last one I ordered from Beaver Tooth Handles was for a WWII US Army pick, handles for that are unobtanium locally.
My local sources don't have much of a selection.
Same here, the one local hardware store that had good handles went out of business a couple of years ago.

There is always a certain amount of risk involved in buying something like a wood handle. With that said I have had good success with House Handle Company. I generally order several and pick and choose depending on the intended usage. You might get more consistent quality at some other places but you will pay for it.
