My Cub Cadet 27 ton splitter started acting up yesterday. First, I suddenly had to hold the lever back to get the wedge to retract. The detent wouldn't hold on its own. Next, the cylinder started to run only forward. It wouldn't retract at all.

I suspect it's the lever assembly it's self but if anyone else has had this happen I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Could be the valve..could also be piston seals passing flow on the retract stroke...ram try's to balance but the area the rod displaces puts the retract side of the cylinder at a disadvantage then.....out the rod goes.

I got it working now. I popped the pin out of the lever to see if the spool was adjustable. I unscrewed it several turns and then hooked the lever back up. I honestly don't know if the spool did adjust or if I just got something to free up in there but it now retracts and the detent holds.

That turned out cheap and easy..
