Been working on 30"+ maple rounds the last few days. Even 16" long cookies that diameter can be a pain to get in position on the vertical splitter. So I found a better way. Put the 395 and a 32" bar to work. I've found I can cut those rounds into 6 pieces faster with the 395 than I can try and split them into manageable sizes. When the wood is that big the 6" wedge is to small anyway and requires several attempts from different places to get them to come clear apart. I can cut them down to size in just a few minutes and then split them horizontally with no problem.
No I look at the big wood like its a piece of cake!

good thinking!

i have been doing this for some time.it's the only way to go and you can use the curlys for excellent fire starters.
