Only AM set I ever found with any quality for the 028 Supers were from Tecomec but have heard they are getting difficult to find. My Stihl dealer could get OEM up to just a few years back but no longer in the system. I see Chainsawr has a good used one in inventory currently, I have used many parts from there to repair older NLA parts wise saws.
thank you! I will check with them.

The cylinder usually can be salvaged, but make sure before spending money.

They will take a lot of hours of run time if they don`t get scored through the plating. I have customers with 028`s that now are on their 3 rd piston, first two wore the intake side skirts paper thin. Just cleaned up the cylinder walls real good and put a new OEM piston in, they just run these saws to cut their own fire wood.

that would be nice! I'll be sure to post pics once I get it apart.

Ok! I've got the cylinder and piston removed. The crankshaft feels like theres no play in it. The rod has some side to side wiggle but when it rotates on the crank i cant feel any play. The piston is gouged on the intake side, its shot. The cylinder has a rough spot on it that corresponds to the piston. I cant tell if its deposited on there or scraped out. the hardest part was getting those little wires out of the piston!

I'd get a Meteor piston, clean the cylinder up and run it. Also part # for inner side plate is 11226641001. Should be able to find on Ebay.

My stihl dealer wants $98 for the piston (11180302003). Thats more than i'd like to spend. The two plates were $13, which is fine. And he did'nt have the plastic part. I'll look up the meteor. Thanks!

Ok, got the meteor from ebay. Wont be in til next friday. I saw a video on here about cleaning the cylinder, so thats my next step. Do i need rtv when i set the cylinder on? There was nothing on there originally and gaskets all look good.

Technically you should do a squish test. However I've reinstalled cylinders without a gasket and had no problem. I typically use Dirko HT but any fuel resistant sealant will work.
