I've been working on my first project saw, a Stihl 028 Woodboss AV with electronic quickstop. This forum and the search function have been really helpful. I'm not particularly mechanically minded but I feel like this saw is a great starting point. I worked for a tree care company for 10 years, but we always sent saws to the shop for repairs. I've never had a saw torn down this far, and it's awesome. Now I have a question for experienced eyes.

The plastic cap on the oil pump doesn't seat firmly in the pump housing. Is this an issue? I feel like it is, and would leak oil like crazy.

Here's the pump apart for cleaning, all parts present based on the service manual. Not missing an o-ring?

So that's my issue - new pump or run it?

Thanks!

Looks just like mine, my cap fits loose as well, just like yours. I would replace gasket underneath while you have it off as mine has leaked there before. Otherwise I wouldn’t be afraid to run it as long as it oils good.

That's reassuring, and I will replace that gasket, thanks.
