Stihl 028

I have a 028 that is killing me. It won't come down to idle. Acts like a vacuum leak, but I be dammed if I can find it. The throttle plate is closed and when you choke it. It starves it out by shutting off. Any suggestions?

What exactly does the top name plate say?

Is it idling too fast or too slow at the current idle setscrew setting? Choke will kill the engine regardless.

I just want to clarify, I like a bit more detail before I dazzle you all with a response.
As always, pics of the linkages would be nice as well.

No it won't come down to idle. I'm putting this out there, hoping someone has run across this problem before. I repair small engines and it's a new one for me. I'm wondering could it be a crankcase leak. It's a AVIQ .

Yeah, a blown seal, or I have seen wore out throttle shaft make it not want to idle down. What happens when you richen the screws, and back out the idle screw?

Throttle plate not centered?

Back out the idle speed screw completely and look for light leak using a pen light.

I’ve had a spate of those mostly with aftermarket carbs or ****ed with in the past.

leaky fuel line or carb elbow will do that.

I just has a 028S do that after carb kit. Ran great then elbow came loose.

There are metal replacements for those. I lost the link, anybody have a source?
