I need a new coil for my 40 yr old 028AV. The only replacement I can find for the origional double pole coil are those with only one pole. Will these work as well? The ones listed are for the model saw I have. My local Stihl dealer said, "I can't imagine it would work." I can't imagine why not. Any advice?

Any 1300 coil from an 026 on up to a 066 will work on the 028S, a coil from an 029 is reported to be a direct bolt in.

Does not some older 028's with points take a different coil?
It is different but can be replaced by the common 1300 module bypassing the points altogether. Mount the module,adjust the air gap and cut the wires from the points, the saw is now electronic ign.

Here is some light reading. It deals with the ignitions in a lot of it, but I just pop on the 029/290 coil.
This. I just went through this with an early model points 028.
Got a HIPA coil from the 'zon, bolted on, runnin' loud and proud now. I left the points/cond in place and just snipped the lead.
