just bought a model 038av, not a super or magnum but this thing is a tank and weighs like it. gas tank leaks at the seal and seems to be a broken muffler.
got it for$ 300 with two new chains and 24 in bar was that a good deal?

any idea on where to find muffler?
can this saw run a bigger bar?

15 years ago, I sold a 038av to a guy that cuts 2 cord per year.

I figured it was worn out and needed to be replaced. I bought a brand new 038 magnum and wore it out after maybe 1000 cord. Bought a brand new 066 Artic and wore it out in 6 years or so.

Guy with my 038 is still cutting his 2 cord per year (no major repairs).

I know of other 038s that have lasted decades.

A bar over 24" is pushing it unless you run full skip chain or something. (Unless you have massive trees, I don't see why you would want a monstrously long bar with more teeth to sharpen anyway).

Not really it needs repairs that price would be a little bit high if in good shape or at the high end.
