Stihl 461 value

Looking at a 461, good running, fair cosmetic. Has a few new parts, maybe $100 worth. He wants $600 , that sound decent?

Dealers in my area are still selling them for $1089. There’s a posting in the for sale area for a new 461 with the arctic trim for $950 (no bar).

So for $350 -$500 more you can have a new saw.

Seems at $600 not a bad deal, so long as you know what to look for in a used saw.

If it starts easy, runs, revs, idles and HAS GOOD COMPRESSION, then $600 sounds about right. Good condition bar and chain(s) should be included.

The price for a 461 is probably nearing it's peak as the 462 phases in. $600 for one is probably ballpark.

sprocket/drum , throttle linkage, bar and chain, already has new side plates.

I bought mine used, but it was near perfect, for $800. I was a bit apprehensive, not being at all familiar with the class of machine. Had I known then what a sweet and powerful runner it is, I would have jumped on it. $200 more off with extras, assuming all else is good, you'll be happy.
