Stihl Multipurpose Grease

I stopped at my local dealer earlier to pick up some grease for sprocket needle bearings. After I get home I noticed the picture on the front is of a damn electric chainsaw, and the part number is different than the stuff listed in the service manual. The part number of the stuff I got is 0781 120 1021.

Is it the same stuff? Will it work?

Pretty much any normal grease gun grease will work just fine, it's not fussy.

Not sure just how expensive that Stihl grease is, but I'm going to assume it's plenty expensive for the amount you get.

I buy my grease @ Walmart. I get a pretty big tube of it for only a couple of bucks. Lasts years.

No. I’m suggesting that greasing tips is not necessary. The bar oil lubes it fine

I think we get 5 bucks for it

but it screws into the fill hole and you squease the tube , no mess and it fills the gear case

I use a needle tip on my grease gun for bars with greaseable tips. Put a zerk on the needle tip so you can just plug it into the grease gun. Works nicely on those pesky universal joints too!

It wasn’t too bad... $3.99. Obviously a little more than a regular #2 grease, but not too bad.

for sprocket bearings (clutch drum bearing) I've always just used wheel bearing grease. It only spins when the chain isn't moving and doesn't have any load on it unless your chain is too tight.
