I just looked at the green log weight chart from Sherrills and it gives sycamore a green weight of 52 lbs per cubic foot. Water comes in at around 62.3 lbs per cubic foot. Every piece of green sycamore I have ever rolled into the creek sank quickly so it has to weigh more than 62.5 pounds per cubic foot.
Just by feel, the only wood I remember having cut that was much heavier than green sycamore is live oak.
