With 20/20 hindsight, I should have cut that maple first. Just hate to cut a good tree, particularly when that hickory wiped out 5 more when the top fell.

28" on the stump, guessing 100' tall or so. Probably heat my house for an entire winter

yea, quit on it at dark and left it for gravity to work on then got gastroenteritis Saturday night. Go back tomorrow and pull it down if it has not already fallen and then start sectioning and pulling it up the hill

well, I got it down today. Was hoping I could cut a 12' butt log out of it but it had so much internal stress in it every time I cut a section off the top it kept splitting itself, sounded like a grenade. Really makes you think about falling hickory
