That sounds like a solid plan. Once you get it pulled apart check the crank bearings and play in the piston rod, side to side is ok but up and down is bad.
I’ve noticed that the 026 has 44.7mm and 44mm cylinder kits available for purchase. Both say they are for the 026. Will both work? I’m assuming once I get the cylinder off I will see the measurement? If both will work, is a 44.7mm more powerful than a 44mm?
The saw isn't worth the cost of a new oem cylinder. There will be minor aluminum transfer on the cylinder wall. Sand off any aluminum transfer on the inside of the cylinder and put in a new meteor piston. I'd guess that's the 44mm cylinder if it's original.
