Thought I would make a new thread to get some more advice. ...... I found a 029 today but I don't think it has much compression- the rope wouldn't hold it up at all. Overall the saw dosen't look bad. If the piston and cylinder don't look bad do you think a set of rings might take care of it. Can you give me any idea of what some parts would cost....rings, seals , carb kit ..thanks

Usually you need at LEAST piston and rings, and often a cylinder. By the time the rings are shot the skirts are tapered (measure them) and it won't idle well or work well at the low end. If you need a second hand piston/clylinder set (you won't need rings), let me know and I can hook you up.

If the price is good for a fixer-upper and you find yourself replacing the piston and jug, why not look into upfitting it to 310 or 390? May be some pretty cost-effective HP.
