I checked out the link but Eric's movie is too big for my dialup.
Was that Ekka collecting that honey? If so he's braver than I gave him credit for.

Dan, this is no ????e, but on New Years Day 1998, I felled a 38" DBH White Oak.
Anyway, I cut the crown off the trunk, choked it and skidded it out. It was 10 below and I noticed bees were flying around and were droping like flies.
It turned out there was a huge nest in the trunk and I got over 30 lbs of honey the nest was at least 3 ft. long!
Too Wild!!

Pretty neat.

All to often I use gas to kill the bees so I can get the job done. Spoils the honey though.
Picture the scene, my landing was a casino parking lot at Guelph line and 401 hwy.
So one can only imagine that I became a regular at the bar and grill there.
Anyway, this dude comes out and bends over the log to scoop all the honey out while lives bees were falling down the crack of his arse and back of his neck. He was too drunk to notice and the honey was used in hot toddies and pancakes.
Too funny!!

Taht's an incredible montage. Is that Darin Turner with the yellow hardhat and the beard? I think I know that guy. He posts/posted as oldmonkey. Fun stuff real blood brewer. Have fun take care

Why were the bees dropping dead? The cold??

Just that its never cold here and I dont know if that kills them.

Hey TreeCo, what gas do you use to kill the bees?

Honey bees are a rare commodity these days. We try to call bee keepers as much as possible.

BoDean - I think my ugly mug appears twice in Ekka's rockin' video.

Yeah, Ekka..put the good ole abhorist in the version 2....

but keep an eye out for boatloads of new material for v3, especially if the latest lousy weather forecast materializes and our killer early snow turns to mush. I've already skied two different resorts. Tuesday was Mt. Baker's unreal opening day, with a 91 inch base..likely the biggest opening ever anywhere....this from the place that recorded a world record 1140 inches 7 years ago.

I would be careful talking about killing honeybees on the net, in many places its a HUGE fine, around here its is a big deal. Some places it is a criminal offense. Due to the increased use of pesticides we dont need to knock the nests out just cuase we cant come back to a job on another day. :angry2:

I'm lucky here, the beekeeper will come that day and get screens on, get setup, and load the nest with his crane the following am. Plus he kicks down a few jars of his blackberry honey.

That sounds like some good advice.

There has been a huge mite problem wiping out native honeybees too. Not to mention Africanized honeybees.

Yup, there are actually 2 types of mites that are causing the problems and decimating the native honey bees.

Mr Monkey Mr Monkey,
oh how they'd come down Super funky.
I run and hide when you get chunky.
Mr Monkey, Mr Monkey.

why after gobbing it (the mouth) is there a notch taken out of the back of the gob?

Good question. It almost appears as though what is supposed to be the hingewood was removed. Unless we see the whole tree it may be hard for a flatlander to determine, however, my guess it that there may be a substantial lean.
It would be a good question for Cahoon or Fales, because I don't really know, but would like to find out as well.
