Hmm this is a nice video of water powered sawmill. But my friend do you know that the Robinson Mill is the oldest water powered sawmill still standing in Vermont. It was built by, Joel Robinson in 1803. and I think Robinson's, the first sawmill built in Everett, led the way. Getting a jump on competing operations, Robinson's would also outlive most of the others by diversifying its product line
 
If I'm not mistaken water mills were the 1st ones out there, I believe cam/lever driven reciprocating saws followed by big circulars. Stand to be corrected of course. When I have a sober moment I'll see if I can get some links ta post here unless beaten to it.
