What model of saw is this?

I really have no idea. It's got a "311 Y" printed right on the top, so I'd think an MS 311. Serial number is 119795186. I need to get some new parts, and want to be sure I get the right ones.

Sorry I had to go address an issue here..........It should be a 044. Clean off where the handle bar attaches to the base of the saw and see what numbers are on the black handle bar. Check where the 3/4 wrap portion comes together also.

thanks for getting back so quick! I didn't see anything in those spots - but then I don't exactly know where you're talking about. I think you're right though, 044 feels right to me. I bought it enough years ago, it's an ancient memory. I'll run with that for parts. Thanks!

Take a look at the front of the brake handle and see what numbers are embossed there

looks like 1123 792 9102
then Stihl PA6 6F 30

I also pulled off the front of the muffler to get a look at this aluminum stamped plate, but it wasn't much help either

That number is not 1123 it is 1128 which is correct for the 044/046. It does not have a decomp so that indicates 044.

Red lever, you think it might be a slant fin? I'd like to see the side of the cylinder behind the flywheel to see the bore size.

absolutely and thank you! I do! I really wasn't expecting such a quick response in the first place. What a terrific site so far. I spend a lot of time at the r/woodstoving subreddit, but this is nice to have more focused and knowledgeable in the saw land. They are such awesome and temperamental machines.

It’s a 10MM 044, so definitely a slant fin. Actually the slant fin went through most of the 12MM run as well. Late 12MM 044 were straight fins that made it into the 440 production without a decomp. Later 440 had straight fins with the decomp

Bill G., Thank you for the clarification. I have a 311y and found a 311 Service Manual, it doesn't match up. The Important Engine Information sticker has the Type as MS250 but must refer to this build. I had no clue about matching to an 044. Many Thanks!!!

I was hoping your serial # was in system just to see year. But showed invalid so maybe wasnt registered by dealer.

Maybe someone else that works in stihl will run it.

The 311Y label is a safety sticker, placed on EVERY machine. To consider that to have anything to do with the model is silly.
